*Bettina Köster was born in Herford, Germany in 1959. Moving to Berlin in the late 1970's she started the store Eisengrau and a cassette label of the same name together with Gudrun Gut. Eisengrau was the meeting point for the local underground and released recordings by the likes of Tödliche Doris, Einstürzende Neubauten and their own band Mania D.

Later Köster and Gut founded the legendary band Malaria! releasing several records and performing at venues like the Documenta 7 and the ICA London, as well as touring the United States with bands like The Birthday Party and New Order.

After settling in New York in the 1990's to work as an analyst on Wall Street, she formed the duo Autonervous with Jessie Evans in early 2000. Her first solo album 'Queen of noise' was released in 2009.*

komt allen & bedwaal of verdwelm!!!

"YOU KILLED THE UNDERGROUND FILM OR THE REAL MEANING OF KUNST BLEIBT, BLEIBT" is een radicale assemblage van beelden.

Wilhelm Hein was one of the key figures that created the grounds and concepts of avant-garde film in the 1960s. Artists

of the film avant-garde in the 1920s pursued the question of the independence of colour and shape, applying an analysis

of painting and static image, to the moving image. In this sense, their endeavors were as if kinetic painting. What Wilhelm

Hein and his generation achieved was to distinguish the medium of film by defining its specific properties: the materiality

of the film, the quality of the projector and the screen, the nature of the celluloid and the lightbeam of the projection.

Wilhelm Hein together with his wife Birgit (Berlin 1942), with whom he co-created from 1966 to 1990, are considered internationally as two of the main representatives of the German avant-garde in cinema.

The Heins' radical films, as well as their great contribution in the organization and proliferation of the movement, marked the revival of the cinematic avant-garde, especially for Germany, at the end of the sixties. In a period of tremendous mobilization in all aspects of the arts, the Heins through a series of publications, exhibitions, educational manifestoes, screenings and performances, establish in Cologne a divergent "bee-hive" for the international Underground cinema.
In 1968 in an article for the "Supervisuell" W. Hein express a desire for "a new european cinema that is forceful, raw and brutal" and questions many contemporary key figures "the self appointed bearded prophets of the cinema of the underground". In the same year their early masterpiece "Rohfilm" product of a radical anarchism materializes their artistic offensive.
Birgit published the book "Film im Untergrund", Wilhelm published the album Xscreen and founds the eponymous movie theatre in Cologne, where in 1974 Jack Smith staged the performance that inspired W.Hein with the title "You killed the underground film or the real meaning of Kunst bleibt, bleibt". Their dedication to the distribution and exchange of ideas and information within their artistic environment distinguished them from many of their contemporaries in Germany. But this is not the only thing that distinguished them from their colleagues, both at home and abroad. The Heins, as Dietrich Kuhlbrodt would write for the exhibition "L'art du Movement" of the Musee d'Art Modern in Paris,". came to twofold differentiation from their contemporaries, now commonly known as 'other cinema': from those of the New American cinema to the extent that they dealt with radiant hymns to beauty and in the effort to rise above the bourgois aesthetics but also from the structural Viennese ' type' determined by and orientated towards the technique of musical composition".
During the seventies the Heins travel around the world and spend more than one year in the United States. In "America of the seventies" they continue to shock the viewer through subjects that deal with aggression and sexuality. Although the following decade belongs to video art, their personal stamp remains filmic to an extent that it was finally safe to say that these were artists who not only used the film material as their but were also in a constant dialogue-confrontation with the cinema of the mainstream.
In the early nineties the Heins divorced and followed different paths in their work. Wilhelm began a shooting process that would take almost ten years until he completed "You killed the Underground Film or the real Meaning of Kunst bleibt, bleibt" with a total duration of 14 hours.
Today what sets Wilhelm Hein apart is that he is consistently true to his political word, especially in an artistic precinct which for many years has remained predominantly apolitical. In May 2005 "You killed the underground" received the German Cinema Critics award at the European Media Festival in Osnabrück.
